Description
HP StorageWorks Division announces the availability of updated firmware images for Fibre Channel
hard disk drives supported within the HP StorageWorks 3000/5000 and 4000/6000/8000 Enterprise
Virtual Arrays.

Enhancements
The following enhancements are included in this release:
• Changes were implemented for potential FC-AL ESI interface errors
• Functional capability during SEEK commands while saving SMART frames has been increased.
• In the rare instance that the drive is in an assert condition, a recovery sequence has been
implemented ensure that the drive provides a check condition and then returns to normal function.
• An offline drive dump is now available even when the format is corrupted for Failure Analysis.
• Performance enhancements have been made to address drive hang conditions.
• Enhancements have been made to drive code error recovery techniques.
Prerequisites
To upgrade multiple disk drives online without the data migration process, you must be running:
• VCS 3.100 or later on EVA3000/5000
• XCS 6.000 or later on EVA4000/6000/8000
• HP Command View EVA 6.0.2 or later
NOTE:
You can upgrade disk drives using the data migration process if required or preferred. See HP
StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array upgrading disk drive firmware read me first for instructions.
Installation instructions
HP recommends that you use the bundled firmware file to upgrade all hard disk drives rather than
manually upgrade the firmware on an individual disk drive. To upgrade al hard disk drives:
1. If you have not already done so, download the HP StorageWorks EVA Hard Disk Drive Bundle file.
The file you download from the web is a zip file.
