The diagnostic application can now enable driver run-time debug output.
•
If a failover occurs during a command and the APF driver receives a CHECK CONDITION during
recovery, the driver will now:
◦
In the case of a TUR or REQUEST SENSE, return the sense data immediately after failover.
◦
For all other commands, the driver will cache the sense data and resend the original command,
and then the driver will return the result of the re-sent command to the client and return the
cached sense data on the next non-INQUIRY or REQUEST SENSE command.
Fixes
•
Fixed a rare case where an ISV application could receive a UNIT ATTENTION, MEDIUM MAY
HAVE CHANGED in response to a MOVE MEDIUM command when all paths to the active control
path drive were lost during a MOVE MEDIUM command. Prevents unnecessary application retries.
•
APF drivers now establish failover sessions on the first command instead of during device discovery
to improve boot performance and device discovery time when a tape drive or tape library is busy
processing commands from other hosts.
•
Added a new recovery algorithm to fix a rare error that can occur and cause the drive to report
an 04/44/00, HARDWARE FAILURE, INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE, when an application is using
large data transfer sizes (usually greater than 1MB per tape block).
•
Resolved a case where the APF driver sent duplicate Unit Attention commands after a control path
failover on Windows Server 2012 R2.
•
Corrected APF driver handling of 08/08/00 (Logical Unit Communication Failure) from a library.
Issues and workarounds
This section identifies important issues and workarounds for Advanced Path Failover.
Path failover issues are observed on Windows Server 2012
Symptom: On Windows Server 2012, path failover issues are observed, even after installing the
advanced path failover driver and rebooting the server twice. The installation file used was:
HP_StoreEver_High_Availability_Path_Failover_Driver_Windows_2012_2012_R2_Z7550-01470.exe
Workaround: The installer for the initial release of the advanced path failover driver has a defect that
results in an incorrect installation on Windows Server 2012. The defect in the installer has been fixed.
Download and install the updated driver package.
1.
Uninstall the advanced failover drivers.
a.
Select Start→Programs→Control Panel.
b.
Select the Advanced Failover Drivers entry and then click Uninstall/Change.
c.
Follow the provided prompts to complete the driver removal.
2.
Reboot the server.
3.
Download the latest Advanced Failover Drivers for Windows Server 2012 from the HP website.

Navigate to http://www.hp.com/support/storage.
b.
Click Tape Storage.
c.
Click Enterprise Class Tape Libraries (for ESL G3) or Tape Libraries (for MSL6480).
