Handlebar C unit This unit comes fully assembled with the exception of the cutting attachment shield and cutting attachment. Prior to Assembly Before assembling, make sure you have all the components required for a complete unit and inspect unit and components for any damage. Tool kits vary by model and may include a spark plug/screwdriver combination wrench, and a scraper. Install the handlebar: 1. Use the 4 mm hex wrench to remove the lower cap retaining screws from the handlebar bracket. Remove the cap from the bracket, and note the position of the two spacers installed between the bracket halves. 2. Position the handle on the outer tube forward of Handle Positioning Label as shown. Reassemble the lower cap to the handlebar bracket in the reverse order of disassembly. 3. Locate the handle in the best position for operator comfort. 4. Firmly tighten both lower cap retaining screws. 5. Secure the cable to the outer pipe with the 2 bands as the illustration shows. The 2 bands are in the tool bag. NEVER operate the unit with- out the cutting attachment shield installed and tightly secured! NOTE: It may be necessary to loosen the retain- ing nut and clamp screw to adjust cutting attachment shield mounting plate. Fit the two shims and the bracket over2. the outer tube and loosely install the four socket-head screws. Tighten the four socket-head cap 3. screws to secure the cutting attach- ment shield. Assembly (continued) Adjust throttle lever free play The throttle lever free play should be approximately 4 - 6 mm (3/16” - 1/4”). Make sure that the throttle lever operates smoothly without binding. If it becomes necessary to adjust the lever free play, follow the procedures and illustrations that follow. 1. Loosen the air cleaner cover knob(s) and remove the air cleaner cover. 2. Loosen the lock nut on the cable adjuster. Turn the cable adjuster in or out as required to obtain proper free play 4 - 6 mm. 3. Tighten the locknut. 4. Reinstall the air cleaner cover. Throttle Lever Free Play 4-6 mm (3/16”-1/4”) Throttle Free Play Lock Nut Cable Adjuster Adjust as required for 4-6 mm free play Remove air cleaner cover Install trimmer head NOTE: This unit is shipped with Holder A, the blade retainer (safety clip), Holder B, shaft bolt, and bolt guard installed. The shaft bolt is a LEFT-HAND thread. Remove it by turning CLOCKWISE! IMPORTANT To install a trimmer head onto a brushcutter unit, first remove the shaft bolt and bolt guard. 1. Position the gearcase with the output shaft facing up and remove both holders. 2. Position Holder A as shown and slide it onto the gearcase shaft. 3. Install and center the safety clip on the gearcase shaft. 4. Install Holder B on the gearcase shaft. The machined boss on Holder A must engage with the recess on Holder B. 5. Rotate the gearshaft and holders until the hole in Holder A aligns with the matching hole in the gearcase flange, and then lock the holder to the gearcase by inserting the long end of the hex wrench through both holes. Install Holder A Slide Holder A onto the gearcase shaft 6.Using a counter-clockwise rotation and hand pressure alone, thread and securely tighten the trimmer head into the gearcase shaft. 7.Remove the hex wrench from the gearcase and holders. The unit should now be completely assembled and ready for use with a trimmer head.
