Please call 1-800-8-BATTERY for information or contact your local recycling center. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE TELEPHONE SOLUTIONS No dial tone •Check or repeat installation steps. •Make sure the base power cord is connected to a working electrical outlet. •Make sure the base charge/in use indicator is lit when the handset is in the cradle. •Make sure the telephone line cord is connected to the back of the base and the wall phone jack. •Disconnect the base from the wall phone jack and connect another phone to the same jack. If there is no dial tone on the second phone, the problem might be your wiring or local service. • The handset may be out of range. Move closer to the base. Use the flash button to activate custom calling services such as Call Waiting or call transfer, which are available through your local phone company. TIP: If you press the TALK button to activate custom calling services such as call waiting, you’ll hang up the phone. Press “flash” instead. VOLUME Use Vol left and right arrow buttons to adjust the volume of the handset’s earpiece to a comfortable level. RINGER SWITCH The handset ringer switch can be set to ON or OFF. If the switch is off, the unit will not ring. RINGER TONE To select the ringer tone: 1. Press and hold the prog button until it beeps. 2. Press 1 or 2 for Ringer Tone selection. 3. Press the prog button again. You will hear a confirmation tone. TONE/PULSE DIALING Most telephone systems use tone dialing, however, some may still use pulse (rotary) dialing. Depending on your telephone system, set the dialing mode as follows: 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode). 2. Press and hold the prog button until the unit beeps. 3. Press the * key to select TONE or the # key to select PULSE. 4. Press the prog button again. You will hear a confirmation tone. TEMPORARY TONE DIALING This feature is useful only if you use pulse dialing service. Temporary tone dialing enables pulse (rotary) service phone users to access touch-tone services offered by banks, credit card companies, etc. For example, when you call your bank you may need to enter your account number. Using the temporary tone feature allows you to temporarily switch to touch-tone mode so you can enter and send your number. 1. Press the TALK button, dial the telephone number (i.e. bank or credit card company), and wait for the line to connect. 2. When your call is answered, press the *TONE button on your handset number pad to temporarily change from pulse dialing to tone dialing. 3. Follow the automated instructions to get the information you need. 4. Hang up the handset and the phone automatically returns to pulse (rotary) dialing mode. PAGING THE HANDSET To find your misplaced handset: 1. Press the PAGE button on the base. The handset beeps, and the TALK button and charge/in use indicator (base) blinks. 2. Press the TALK button when you locate the handset, or press the base PAGE button to stop paging. The page signal beeps three times every two seconds for two minutes. NOTE: You can still page the handset when the ringer is off. CHAN (CHANNEL) BUTTON If you ever experience any interference or don’t have clear voice quality, press the chan button on the handset to advance to another channel. MEMORY Store up to ten 20-digit telephone numbers in memory for quick dialing. STORING A NUMBER IN MEMORY 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode). 2. Press the memory button. 3. Press any number key (0-9) to store the phone number in that memory location. 4. Press memory button. 5. Use the keypad to enter the number (up to 20 digits) you want to store in that memory location. 6. Press the memory button again to confirm. CHANGING A STORED NUMBER NOTE : You must connect the handset battery before use. 1. Push down on the top of the battery compartment door and remove it. 2. Lift the battery pack and connect it's plug into the jack inside the compartment. NOTE : It is important to maintain the polarity (black and red wires) to the jack inside the compartment. 3. Close the battery compartment by pushing the door up until it snaps into place. 4. Place the handset in the charging cradle. NOTE : If the battery pack is not properly installed, the TALK button indicator blinks when the handset is placed in the base cradle, and the handset will not operate. INSTALLING THE PHONE IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. • Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line ...
