If a document is loaded in the document tray, the machine automatically begins to transmit when the remote fax machine answers the phone. Or, if no document is loaded, your machine will make a phone call. When the person you are calling answers, pick up the handset. CHAPTER FOUR: SPECIAL FEATURES 4.7 SPECIAL FEATURES Using REDIAL/PAUSE REDIAL/PAUSE has two functions. It can be used to redial the number you last called, or it can be used to insert a pause in a number when you’re setting up a One-Touch or Speed Dial number. CHAPTER FOUR: SPECIAL FEATURES 4 .9 SPECIAL FEATURES Using TONE You may often need to use tone signals to perform special operations by phone. Bank-byphone and voice mail are two examples of systems that require tone signals. To find out whether you have pulse or tone service, see page 2.6. If you have pulse service, you can still send tone signals by following these steps: 1 Dial the number using pulse dialing. 2 When the remote phone answers, press TONE. Any numbers you press now will be sent by tone, not pulse, for the remainder of the call. Using MUTE If you mute a call during voice communication, you can hear the other party, but they cannot hear you. For example, if you have call waiting, you can put a call on hold and take a second call on the same line by pressing the switch-hook button. Pressing FLASH performs the equivalent of a switch-hook operation. If you press STOP in the middle of selecting features, the machine stores the features you have selected up to that point, and returns to the standby mode. Setting Fax Options These instructions assume you’ve followed the steps above under “Setting an Option” and the machine is asking if you want to change any of the fax options listed here.
