Anleitung Zusammenfassung

1-3 Features
OVNM provides rich functions to carry out operational tasks from the HP Operations environment. These are
designed to be as proactive as possible, in order to manage vital components of the NonStop server. The
solution provides a single point of control for both HP Operations as well as HP NNM.
Some of the features are:
Powerful Event Management
With HP Operations Agent for NonStop instal ed on your servers, you can selectively filter critical NonStop
system and application events. You create policies based on specific criteria, easily customize alerts to meet
specific needs, and then assign event severity levels. This selected information can then be passed to various
multi-platform management systems.
Using the OVNM Console, you create specific views of EMS messages for each type of key user who must
review and take action. Using the OVNM ObjectMap facility, you create graphical displays that make it easy to
identify problem areas and dril down to specific causes. And with the powerful event management function, you
can quickly assign NonStop system processes and related events to user-defined views.
The NonStop event integration facilitates:

Assignment of the NonStop events to HP Operations Message Browsers as well as their severity codes.

Ability to map NonStop events to service names within the HP Operations.

Ability to take automatic or manual actions on the NonStop Server from the HP Operations console.

Forwarding of System as well as User Application events.

Ability to override EMS Event text with user-defined text.
Object Management

With HP Operations Manager: When your NonStop servers are part of a larger enterprise managed by HP
Operations Manager software, you can use OVNM’s object management function to define objects such as
processors, disks, files, processes, spoolers, communication lines, and NonStop server subsystems. You can
thus set object thresholds to check availability and resource consumption (e.g., application availability or
processor utilization). If a threshold is violated, this object management feature generates an event, which is
then reported to the HP Operations message browser and its configured service view.

With Other Enterprise Management Consoles: The SNMP Adapter provided with OVNM 5.0 facilitates
policy-based management of HP NonStop servers that are included in other cross-platform enterprise
management systems that recognize SNMP Traps. This adapter takes OVNM-generated events from the HP
NonStop server and maps these SNMP events into SNMP-compatible management consoles, such as HP
Operations Network Node Manager, BMC’s PATROL, and IBM’s NetCool.
Proactive Resource Management
OVNM provides discovery of NonStop Server resources for their proactive management. Resources such as
CPU, DISK, Controllers, and Processes can be monitored proactively for their availability as well as resource
consumption. Failure in any of the defined resource components is reported to HP Operations.
Automatic Discovery
With HP Operations Agent for NonStop you can use its NonStop object threshold template to set up automatic
discovery of NonStop server objects, including hardware, middleware, and applications. OVNM’s automatic
discovery feature works the same for NonStop-only environments as it does for cross-platform enterprise
management systems.
Service Maps
OVNM maps NonStop server events into an application and system topology view within its Console ObjectMap
panel. OVNM also brings server events into HP Operation Manager’s service maps automatical y. This enables
operations staff to correlate events and performance thresholds to specific services from a customer standpoint,
and construct service views that facilitate more efficient business systems management. These are user-defined
views of managed objects, grouped by business category or any other relevant criteria. Service maps are key to
successful monitoring of enterprise service-level agreements.
