The Xalio 6820 is an extra handset for the Xalio Plus digital cordless telephone. The Xalio 6850 is an extra handset for the Xalio Vox digital cordless telephone with answering machine. Your Xalio 6800/6820/6850 comprises: • a charger • a handset • a power cable This guide shows you how to install and use your extra Xalio handset. Please refer to the corresponding Xalio user manual for information on: • using the phonebook • using the emergency number • using the answering machine (Xalio Vox only) • troubleshooting Introduction 2 Installing your extra handset 3 Installing your extra handset Deciding where to put the charger • Place the charger near a mains outlet supplying 230V at 50Hz. • To reduce to a minimum any interference with other electronic devices such as telephones, televisions, screens, etc. we advise you to place your charger at least 50cm from any other electronic device. • Place the charger on a flat surface as with the base station or mount it on a wall. • Significant obstacles such as concrete walls or metallic supports (windows and door frames, partitions, etc.) will lessen the communication range between the base station and the handset. Installing the charger on a horizontal surface 1 Plug the power cable into the charger. 4 Installing your extra handset Plug the power cable into the wall socket. Place the handset in the charger. 2 3 Installing your extra handset 5 Mounting the charger on a wall Fix the screws (not supplied) according to the diagram below. Plug the power cable into the charger as shown on page 3. Mount the charger on the screws. Plug the power cable into the wall socket as shown on page 4. Before you use your handset for the first time, charge it for at least 12 hours. This precaution helps to lengthen the life of the battery. To charge the handset, place it on the charger or on the base station. The b symbol will appear on the display to indicate that the battery is charging. When the bsymbol disappears, your handset is fully charged. The charger must be connected to a power supply using the power cable supplied. Tip To ensure an optimum handset charge, replace the handset on the charger regularly. Installing your extra handset 6 Subscribing your handset to your Xalio base station Before you can use your handset, you must subscribe it to your base station. 1 Press the button on the base station for 10 seconds. The base station beeps to indicate that it is now in subscription mode. 2 Move the handset to be subscribed close to the base station and press Rto enter menu mode. 3 Press - until SUBSCRIBE is displayed. 4 Press o. The handset will search for a base station that is in subscription mode. After a few seconds, the name or ID number of the base station will be displayed. In this case go to the next step. If it cannot find one, NO BASE will be displayed and you will need to try again. 5 Press o again. CODE? will be displayed. 6 Enter the subscription code (1590) on the handset keypad. 7 Press o. If the base station has a name, this will be displayed. When you first use your telephone, the base station name is PHILIPS. You can delete the existing name using the key. If the base station has no name, BASE NAME? will be displayed. Installing your extra handset 7 8 9 10 11 Enter a name (maximum 8 characters) on the handset keypad. If you do not enter a name, the base station keeps its existing name. You can enter characters by pressing the key with the required character on it one or more times. These characters are printed on the handset keypad. If you wish to enter two successive characters which are on the same key, you need to distinguish them by pressing the +key between the two characters. You delete a character with the - key. For example: to enter PHILIPS 1 you would press the following keys. Space Press o. The new handset beeps to confirm that it has been subscribed successfully. Press Rto leave menu mode. To hang up, press t or replace the handset on the base station or charger. Dialling with number preparation 1 2 3 Dial the number before pressing the t key. You can use the - key to make corrections by cancelling the last digit entered. Press the tkey on the handset. To hang up, press t or replace the handset on the base station or charger. Answering an outside call 1 2 Press the t key on the handset or simply lift it off the base station or charger. To hang up, press t or replace the handset on the base station or charger.
