Anleitung Zusammenfassung

Inventory mappings establish recovery site defaults for the folders, networks, and resource pools to
which recovered virtual machines are assigned. You create these mappings at the protected site, and
they apply to all virtual machines in all protection groups at that site.
Primary or protected site is the storage array in a mirror relationship that accepts host input/output
(I/O) and stores application data. When the mirror relationship is first created, data from the primary
site is copied in its entirety to the associated secondary site. The primary site contains the original
user data in a mirroring relationship.
Protection groups are groups of virtual machines that are failed over together.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is the point in time to which you must recover data as defined by your
organization. This is generally a definition of what an organization determines is an acceptable loss
in a distressed situation.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is the duration of time and a service level within which a business
process must be restored after a disaster to avoid unacceptable consequences associated with a break
in business continuity.
Secondary or recovery site is the storage array in a mirror relationship that maintains a mirror (or
copy) of the data from its associated primary site. The secondary site is available for host read requests
only. Write requests to the secondary site are not permitted. In the event of a disaster or catastrophic
failure of the primary site, the secondary site can be promoted to a primary role. The secondary site
is also referred to as the disaster recovery (DR) site.
Storage Replication Adapter (SRA), is the XML/Perl interface that acts as a communication medium
between Site Recovery Manager and the storage array.
Synchronous mirroring is a mode of data mirroring in which the updates on the mirror site are
synchronized between destinations. This mode is only available within a domain.
Transaction consistent refers to the state of the media behind a logical unit, such that all pending
writes have been completed, and all caches are empty.
Disaster recovery concepts
Planning
Disaster recovery requires the restoration, recovery, and restart of business applications and related
processes after a major impact to your computing and storage environment occurs. Disasters arise
from a multitude of sources. You should have a documented plan of recovery for each potential
disaster. Types of disasters vary greatly, depending on geography, business environment, and political
considerations.
Asynchronous write mode and write consistency mode
You can use write consistency mode and asynchronous write mode when the distance between sites
is large. (See the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide for
supported distance limits.) Asynchronous mirroring requires an IP network (WAN) to connect the sites.
You must provide adequate bandwidth and adequate I/O rate (latency) in the IP network for a
successful mirroring solution.
