HP OpenView Storage Data Protector
1. Load GWTSA with the desired domain and post office parameters.
2. Configure Data Protector with the desired parameters.
3. The Data Protector queries GWTSA through SMDR to perform the requested action.
4. GWTSA accesses the data in the GroupWise system.
5. GWTSA temporarily locks the database that it is backing up. It makes a copy of
the database and places the copy in the temporary SYSTEM\TSA\TEMP
directory and unlocks the live database. You can use the command line
parameter /TEMPDIR= to define an alternate location for the temporary
directory.
6. The backup process is then completed for each item specified in Data Protector.
7. When you create a backup, the GWTSA automatically time stamps all backed-up user
databases (USERxxx.DB), so that the “Allow Purge of Items Not Backed Up” option can
function. The “Allow Purge of Items Not Backed Up” option safeguards users’ deleted items
against being purged from the GroupWise system before they have been backed up.
Note:
Although you do not have to use the GWTSA, remember that user databases must
be manually time stamped in order for the feature to work properly.
8. Restore Process flow
The restore process is similar to the backup process. Following is the general restore
process flow:
1. Load GWTSA.
2. Configure Data Protector with the desired parameters.
There are two things to consider when you restore GroupWise data:
- Do you need to replace an entire domain or post office?
If yes, then you can restore to the current domain or post office directory.
- Do you need to create a temporary image so that certain items can be
retrieved?
If yes, then you can restore the post office to the restore area and users can
retrieve files from the restore area.
3. If you are restoring an entire post office to the current post office directory, shut
down the agents that are processing.
4. Data Protector queries GWTSA through SMDR to perform the requested action.
5. Data Protector reads the selected backup information from the backup and gives
it to GWTSA through SMDR to restore.
