For more information, see “Replacing Ink Tanks” on page 20. If ink tanks were placed in the incorrect color slots in the printhead, after switching the tanks to their correct slots, perform at least two printhead cleanings to remove the incorrect residual colors from the printhead. Printed output is faded or unclear Media not loaded print side up Check that your media is placed in the printer facing in the correct direction. See “Loading Paper and Other Media” on page 4. Low ink Verify that you have sufficient ink in the ink tanks. See “Monitoring Ink Levels” on page 19. Printhead nozzles clogged or damaged Verify that the printhead is working properly. See “Printing a Nozzle Check Pattern” on page 20 and “Cleaning the Printhead” on page 22. If necessary, perform multiple printhead cleanings. See the S500 User’s Guide on the Setup Software & User’s Guide CD-ROM for more information. Ink tanks are not seated properly Check the ink tanks, and reseat them if necessary. See “Replacing Ink Tanks” on page 20. Printhead needs to be aligned Perform printhead alignment. See "Aligning the Printhead" on page 23. Meaningless characters printed Corrupted print instructions are stored in the printer buffer 1. Turn the printer off to clear the printer buffer. 2. Cancel the print job from the computer. See “Cancelling a Print Job” on page 7. 3. Turn the printer on again. M MM A AA C CC O OO S SS On your keyboard, press the Apple Command key ( ) and the period key (.) at the same time. The print job will be cancelled and the paper ejected. Incorrect printer driver selected Check the Printer window to verify that the correct printer driver is selected. Bad (corrupted) file Create the document again and print it. If it prints successfully, the original file was corrupted. ECP mode not set Extended Capabilities (Parallel) Port, or ECP, provides faster data transfer between the computer and the printer. If the ECP setting is incorrect, it could result in incorrect print information going to the printer.
