For headphones, use the computer’s volume control. Web Camera (Available on certain models) Your computer may come with a built-in Web Camera. With this Web Camera you can do the following: . Take pictures and record videos with your computer . Chat with others and have them see you while using instant messaging (IM) programs . Have video conference calls NOTE To E-mail, instant message or video conference, you must be connected to the Internet. Depending on your computer model, the process of sending E-mail, taking pictures or recording video messages may vary. The Web Camera software, by default, should already be running in the Notification Area. Using PC Cards (Available on certain models) TECHNICAL NOTE: For PCMCIA-compatible PC Cards, check the package to make sure they conform to the PCMCIA 2.1 standard (or later). Other cards may work with your computer, but are likely to be much more difficult to set up and use. Your computer comes with a PC Card slot and supports two types of PC Cards that you can install: . Type I cards . Type II cards The PC Card slot supports hot swapping, which allows you to replace one PC Card with another while the computer is on. Exploring Your Computer’s Features Exploring Your Computer’s Features Using PC Cards Inserting a PC Card Before you insert a PC Card, refer to the documentation that comes with the card to see if you need to do anything before you insert it. To insert a PC Card: 1 Locate the PC Card slot on the side of the computer. NOTE You may first need to remove the card slot protector before you can insert a card. 2 Insert the PC Card. (Sample Illustration) Inserting a PC Card 3 When the card is almost all the way into the slot, push firmly but gently to ensure a firm connection with the computer. Do not force the card into position. Removing a PC Card Be sure to disable the PC Card prior to removing it. Otherwise, the system may be damaged. NOTE Before removing a PC Card, make sure that no applications or system services are using the card. 1 Prepare the card for removal by clicking the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Notification Area and then selecting the card or device you want to remove. If the system is unable to prepare the card for safe removal, a message will tell you to try again later. If the card can be removed now, the system displays Safe to Remove Hardware. 2 Locate the PC Card eject button. 134 134 3 4 Press the PC Card eject button once to pop it out slightly, and push it in to remove the PC Card. The PC Card ejects slightly from the slot. Grasp the edges of the PC Card and slide it out of the slot.
