REC Mode Indicators on Histogram/Details on Indicators on Histogram on Indicators off Indicators off 30 GETTING READY Attaching the Strap IMPORTANT! • Pressing [] (DISP) will not change monitor screen contents during standby or recording of an audio snapshot. • You can use [] (DISP) to turn off the monitor screen only when voice recording in the REC mode. You cannot turn off the monitor screen for any other recording function. • Pressing [] (DISP) in the Voice Recording REC mode toggles the monitor screen on (“indicators on”) and off. While a Voice Recording file is displayed in the PLAY mode, pressing [] (DISP) toggles between “indicators on” and “indicators off”. • When playing back the content of a Voice Recording file while “indicators off” is selected (Voice Recording file icon only on the monitor screen), the monitor screen will go black about two seconds after you press [SET] to start playback. The Voice Recording file icon (indicators off) will reappear after playback is complete. Attach the strap to the strap ring as shown in the illustration. Strap ring IMPORTANT! • Be sure to keep the strap around your wrist when using the camera to protect against accidentally dropping it. • The supplied strap is intended for use with this camera only. Do not use it for any other purpose. • Never swing the camera around by the strap. 31 GETTING READY Power Requirements Your camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery (NP-40). Loading the Rechargeable Battery 1. Slide the battery cover in the direction indicated by the arrow, and then swing it open. 2. While pulling the stopper in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration, align the arrow mark on the battery with the arrow mark on the camera and slide the battery into the camera. Stopper Arrow marks Camera: Battery: NP-40 • Push the bottom of the battery, and make sure that the stopper securely locks the battery in place. 32 GETTING READY 3. Swing the battery cover closed, and then slide it in the direction indicated by the arrow. IMPORTANT! • Use only the special NP-40 rechargeable lithium ion battery to power this camera. Use of any other type of battery is not supported. The battery is not fully charged when you use the camera for the first time after purchasing it. You need to charge the battery before using the camera for the first time. To charge the battery 1. Connect the bundled AC adaptor to the [DC IN 5.3V] connector of the USB cradle, and then plug it in to a household power outlet. • Note the shape of the AC adaptor depends on the area where you purchased the camera. USB Cradle AC Adaptor [DC IN 5.3V] AC power cord 33 GETTING READY NOTE • The bundled AC adaptor is designed for operation with any power supply in the range of 100V to 240V AC. Note, however, that the shape of the AC power cord plug varies according to country or geographic area.
