8 Reinsert the paper in the paper tray and push the paper release plate back down. Maintenance Scanning glass and rollers Clean the scanning glass and rollers frequently to ensure the quality of transmitted images and copies. Open the operation panel (grasp the finger hold and pull up), and wipe the scanning glass and rollers with a soft cloth. ¦ Make sure that all dirt and stains (such as correcting fluid) are removed, as dirts and stains will cause vertical lines on transmitted images and copies. ¦ Adhesive cellophane tape is useful for removal of debris from the rollers. Document rollers Caution: When wiping, take care not to damage any of the protruding parts on the underside of the operation panel. If you cannot solve the problem, call Sharp’s Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-BE SHARP. Answering machine hookup P r ob le m C he ck a n d r e me dy The answering machine hookup does not operate properly. • ···· Make sure your fax machine’s reception mode is set to A.M. • ···· Make sure your fax machine’s TEL . LI NE jack is connected to the wall jack. Make sure your fax machine’s T E L. SET jack is connected to your answering machine’s telephone line jack (not the answering machine’s extension phone jack). • ···· Make sure your answering machine’s outgoing message is under 10 seconds. • ···· Make sure that Option Setting 9 (Quiet Detect Time) is set to three or four seconds (see Chapter 8). • ···· Make sure that the Distinctive Ring function is set to OFF SETTING (see Distinctive Ringin Chapter 7). • ···· If you have checked all of the above and the hookup still doesn’t operate properly, call the Customer Assistance Center.
