Recording Messages With your new voice recorder, you can record and store up to 199 messages. 1. Make sure the HOLD switch is in the off position. 2. Press REC/STOP, PLAY/STOP or REC MODE/ PAUSE to turn on the recorder. 3. Press RECORD MODE to select the recording speed. 4. Point the built-in microphone toward the sound source and press the REC button. 5. Press REC again to stop recording. Note: The message number, recorder status, and time appear in the display. Recording Speeds SP (Standard Mode) 118 minutes LP (Long Play Mode) 238 minutes Notes: A better sound can be obtained in the SP mode, but only half as many messages can be recorded. The speed can only be selected when the recorder is in the STOP position. Features During Recording • Pressing PAUSE during a recording pauses for a maximum of 30 minutes. Pressing PAUSE or REC resumes the recording. • Each press of SEARCH Forward advances the recorder to the next available message for recording.This is useful when you want to record back-to-back messages; you eliminate pressing REC/STOP to stop and REC/STOP to resume recording. • When the maximum recording time is reached or 199 messages are recorded, recording additional messages is not possible. Refer to the “Erasing Messages” section to learn how to delete messages. • Pressing PLAY/STOP during a recording displays the total time remaining for recording. • You can monitor a recording by using the earphone jack. Playing Messages Before you begin to play messages, you may want to find a quite place to listen to the messages because of the size of the speaker. You can also use the earphone, instead, in places where it is too loud to use the speaker. 1. Make sure the HOLD switch is in the off position. 2. Press REC/STOP, PLAY/STOP, or REC MODE/ PAUSE to turn on the recorder. 3. Press PLAY/STOP to begin playback. 4. Adjust the VOL control. 5. Press PLAY/STOP to stop playback. Note: The message number, recorder status, and time appear in the display. Features During Playback • Pressing PAUSE during playback pauses for a maximum of 30 minutes. Pressing REC MODE/PAUSE or PLAY/STOP resumes playback. • Pressing and holding PLAY/STOP for approximately two seconds scans through each message one at a time allowing you to listen to each message for approximately five seconds. If you press the PLAY/STOP button during SCAN, playback will resume from the selected message number. • Pressing SEARCH forward during playback moves forward through the messages one by one. Pressing and holding SEARCH forward scans forward through all the messages. Pressing SEARCH backward moves backward through the messages one by one. Pressing and holding SEARCH backward scans backwards through the messages. • Refer to the “Erasing Messages” section to learn how to delete messages. • You can listen to your messages by using the earphone jack, especially useful for noisy places. Erasing Messages Erasing messages is only possible in the STOP position. You can either erase each message one at a time or all the messages. 1. Make sure the HOLD switch is in the off position. 2. Press REC/STOP, PLAY/STOP or REC MODE/ PAUSE to turn on the recorder. 3. Search for the message you want to erase by using SEARCH backward or forward. 4. Press and hold ERASE until ERASE flashes in the display and the message you want plays, then release the button. 5. Press ERASE again to erase the message.The message is erased and all the messages are renumbered when the erasure is complete. For example, if you erase message 2, the unit shows the next message as message 2. Note: To erase all of the messages, press REC and ERASE at the same time for approximately three seconds. Recording From an External Device You can record information from an audio source by following the instructions below. Before recording, you may want to adjust the volume control of the device from which you will be recording. From an External Audio Source 1. Make sure the voice recorder and the external source are in the off positions before connecting. 2. Connect the MIC INPUT jack on the voice recorder to the MIC OUT, Earphone, or AUDIO OUT jack on the audio source using an audio cable. 3. Press the REC/STOP button on the voice recorder to turn it on. 4. Press REC/STOP again to begin recording and at the same time turn on the external audio source. (Refer to the operating instructions of the external source.) 5. When finished, press the REC/STOP and turn off external source. Notes:You may need to adjust the audio of the external device to avoid sound distortion.Also, you can use the earphone to monitor the recording.
