Anleitung Zusammenfassung
Unscrew the slotted nuts (4) . 138BA002K 4 MS 360 C 43 english / USA 6 5 138BA003K : Remove the foam filter element (5) from the front half (6) and clean or replace as necessary. : Knock the two halves of filter out on the palm of your hand or blow them clear with compressed air from the inside outwards. In case of stubborn dirt: : Wash the filter components in STIHL universal cleaner or a clean, non-flammable solution (e.g. warm soapy water) and then dry. Do not use a brush to clean the fleece filter. : Always replace a damaged filter element. : Reinstall the air filter. Motor Management Exhaust emissions are controlled by the design of the fundamental engine parameters and components (e.g. carburation, ignition, timing and valve or port timing) without the addition of any major hardware. Adjusting the Carburetor General Information The carburetor comes from the factory with a standard setting. This setting provides an optimum fuel- air mixture under most operating conditions. With this carburetor it is only possible to adjust the engine idle speed within fine limits. 44 MS 360 C english / USA Standard Setting Adjusting Idle Speed Erratic idling behavior, poor acceleration 4LH3 1/ 4/ L 138BA026 KNH 4LH3 1/ 4/ LA 138BA027 KN 4LH3 1/ 4/ L 138BA026 KNH : Shut off the engine. : Check the air filter and clean or replace it as necessary. : Check spark arresting screen in the muffler and clean or replace it as necessary. : Turn the high speed screw (H) counterclockwise (max. 3/ 4 turn) as far as stop. : Turn low speed screw (L) clockwise as far as stop. Then back it off one quarter turn. Engine stops while idling : Turn the idle speed screw (LA) clockwise until chain begins to run – then back it off one quarter of a turn. Chain runs when engine is idling : Turn the idle speed screw (LA) counterclockwise until chain stops running – then turn screw another quarter turn in the same direction. Idle setting too lean: : Turn low speed screw (L) counterclockwise (about 1/4 turn) until the engine runs and accelerates smoothly. Adjustment for Operation at High Altitudes A slight correction of the setting may be necessary if engine power is not satisfactory when operating at high altitude: : Check standard setting. : Warm up the engine. : Turn the high speed screw (H) and the low speed screw (L) clockwise. MS 360 C 45 english / USA Checking the Spark Plug If you make the mixture too lean, maximum permissible engine speed will be exceeded and there is a risk of serious engine damage. 000BA002 KN Wrong fuel mix (too much engine oil in the gasoline), a dirty air filter and unfavorable running conditions ( mostly at part throttle etc. ) affect the condition of the spark plug. These factors cause deposits to form on the insulator nose which may result in trouble in operation. If engine is down on power, difficult to start or runs poorly at idling speed, first check the spark plug. : Remove spark plug - see “Starting / Stopping the Engine“ : Clean dirty spark plug. : Check electrode gap (A) it should be 0.5 mm/0.02" readjust if necessary. : Use only resistor type spark plugs of the approved range. Rectify problems which have caused fouling of spark plug: : Too much oil in fuel mix. : Dirty air filter. : Unfavorable running conditions, e.g. operating at part load. Fit a new spark plug after approx. 100 operating hours or earlier if the electrodes are badly eroded. 46 MS 360 C english / USA Replacing Starter Ropeand Rewind Spring 1 1 1 1 133BA014 KN 1 2 3 5000BA036 TR 4 4 001BA096 KN133BA016 KN To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury, use only spark plugs authorized by STIHL. Always press spark plug boot (2) snugly onto spark plug boot (1) of the proper size. (Note: If boot has detachable SAE adapter nut, it must be attached. ) A loose connection between spark plug boot and ignition wire connector in the boot may create arcing that could ignite combustible fumes and cause a fire. : Remove the screws (1) . : Push the hand guard up. : Pull underside of fan housing away from crankcase and remove it downward. : Use screwdriver or suitable pliers to carefully remove spring clip (2) from the starter post. : Carefully remove the rope rotor with washer (3) and pawls (4) . Take care not to pull the rewind spring (behind the rotor) out of the housing during this process. : Use a screwdriver to pry the rope out of the starter grip. : Remove remaining rope from the rotor and grip. Thread the new rope (see “Specifications”) through the top of the grip and the rope bush (5) . : Thread the rope through the rotor and secure it with a simple overhand knot. : Coat rope rotor bearing bore with non-resinous oil. : Slip rotor over starter post – turn it back and forth to engage anchor loop of rewind spring. MS 360 C 47 english / USA 4 4 3 2 001BA096 KN Tensioning rewind spring When starter rope is fully extended it must still be possible to rotate the rotor 144BA016 LA at least another half turn. If this is not the case, the spring is overtensioned...
