Refer to the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS provided with this product and save them for future reference. Before You Begin Parts Checklist Make sure your package includes the following items: Base ® « A p n 0 1 /4 0 LJ ;ij ojL 0 i Coiled cord Mounting bracket Handset Line cord Telephone Jack Requirements To use this phone, you need an RJ11C type modular telephone jack, which might look like the one pictured here, installed in your home. If you don't have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed. Wall plate Telephone „.(•] line jack-"”* 6 Important Installation Information_ • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. • Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. • Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. 7 Base Layout * tone (button) Quick dial/emergency SPEAKERPHONE (button) memory (buttons) redial/pause (button) flash/exit (button) dial (button) mute (button) VOL+/- (volume +/-buttons) skip (button) PLAY/STOP (button) message speed (button) delete (button) announce (button) memo (button) ans on/off (answer button) store (button) menu (button) Microphone 8 Installing the Phone Desktop Installation CAUTION: To reduce risk of personal injury, fire, or damage use ^ only the 5-2806 (white) or 5-2807 (black) power adaptor listed in the user's guide. This power adaptor is intended to be correctly orientated in a vertical or floor mount position. 1. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of the base. 2. Place the handset in the base. 3. Plug the telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the phone. Plug the other end into a wall jack. 4. Connect the small end of the power adaptor into the POWER 7.5V AC jack on the back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet. The screen displays PLEASE WAIT...... then announces "Press menu key to set up the unit". The unit is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default greeting and settings. NOTE: The phone automatically defaults to touch-tone dialing. To change to pulse (rotary) dialing, see "Setting the Dialing Mode." If you don't know which type of service you have, check with the phone company. NOTE: The unit is properly installed if you pick up the handset and hear the dial tone. Otherwise, recheck all the installation steps. 9 Wall Mounting the Phone 1. To prepare for wall mounting, wrap excess telephone cord, if any, around the hooks provided on the wall mount bracket. Be sure to leave enough cord for connecting to the base at the top and the wall jack through the center cut out of the wall bracket. 2. Plug the line cord into the jack of the base. 3. Align the line cord with the small cut out in the wall mount bracket. 4. Align and inset the two sets of small tabs of the wall mount bracket into the base at the top. Then gently press into the two sets of bottom grooves until it snaps in place. 5. Connect the small end of the power adapter into the POWER 7.5V AC jack on the back of the answerer. Secure the cord of the power adapter in the groove on the wall mount bracket. 6. Carefully turn the handset hook180 with a coin or screwdriver until it points upward (the WALL imprint will be right side up). You need to do this so the at the handset doesn't fall out of the base. 7. Connect the line cord to the wall phone jack, through the center cutout of the wall mounting bracket. 8. Slip the mounting of the base (on bottom of unit) over the wall plate post and slide the base down until the phone is firmly in place. 9. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of the base. 10.Place the handset on the base. 11.Plug the AC Power adapter into an AC power outlet. The screen displays PLEASE WAIT... then announces: "Press menu key to set up unit". The unit is ready for Answering System Set Up. 10 Important Instructions for Moving the Answerer: To move the answerer to a different location in the house, follow these instructions: 1. Disconnect the phone line. 2. Go to the electrical outlet and unplug the power adaptor. 3. Move the unit and phone line to the desired location. 4. Plug in the power adaptor into an electrical outlet. 5. The display shows that the messages have not been erased. 6. Connect the phone line. 7. Reset the time/date setti...
